Chiang Mai
We got into Chiang Mai yesterday afternoon. Chiang Mai has a lot of foreigners. Most look like they are part of the MTV generation. Like the cast of Real World repeated 100 times and dropped off in Thailand. We didn't do much today except wander out for dinner and then go to the Night Bazaar. The stuff here is more organized than the market we went to in Bangkok so it was much nicer to browse. The vendors are also a lot friendlier than in Beijing. When you quote an outrageously low price, they don't get mad, they just smile and say in an apologetic voice, "no, I cannot." Unfortunately the end result is still the same, no sale. The funny thing is that we initially just set out to find a restaurant and then take a taxi to the night market, but Lonely Planet has our hotel in completely the wrong place so we actually accidentally walked into the night market, then got laughed at by taxi drivers when we asked to be taken to the night market (actually he first wanted to charge us 60B).
