Energy Conservation

To conserve energy (I assume) in China lights in at least the cheaper apartment buildings are usually off unless it detects someone in the hallway. So a lot of times when you walk down a hallway you have to stomp your feet to see. I started playing games with the lights near my painting class, like trying to turn on the whole hallway of lights. Another student was trying to only turn on one at a time. In any case, it feels so normal to stomp your feet when it is dark that I nearly did it outside once. When I get back to the US, I'm going to buy The Clapper just for kicks.
