Snowmen
It turns out the actual amount of time is hasn't snowed in Dali is 4 years. Sorry for saying it was 80. The last time it snowed this much is 20 years though. Again, I have no proof but these numbers are consistent across three people.
Anyhow, the fun thing about snow in China, especially somewhere which doesn't get much snow is how excited all the locals are. Practically in front of every shop there is a snowman. Chinese snowmen vary a bit. A few have the traditional three ball structure, but most consist of a cone for a body and a head. The head is where the fun begins. Sometimes it is normal, but you also have animal heads, round heads with traditional Chinese headwear, and even a gourd shaped head. The boy who does most of the chores at our hotel made a snowman who held different tools each day, like a rake and bucket, a broom, etc.
