Biathlon

Wow, what's better than cross-country skiing? Cross-country skiing with guns! The Men's Pursuit was fascinating. The penalty loop is funny to watch.

The biathlon reminds me of a Seinfeld standup bit, where he talks about what an odd combination that is. "It's like combining swimming and strangle a guy. Why don't we have that? That makes absolutely as much sense. Just put people in the pool at the end of each lane for swimmers."

Actually, it's not that strange. The biathlon started as a military exercise in Scandinavia.

The really lame part is how many different events there are - mass starts, pursuit, relay, etc. There are 10 distinct events. Germany got 11 of their medals in Biathlon, more than a third of their total, causing them to "win" the Olympics.

um, that's not particularly different from the other big traveling sports (cycling, running, speed skating, swimming).

and don't get me started on this pathetic "medal count" bullshit.
